DF Pirate Radio – “The Slighty Unpleasant Dream After Hanukkah”

Title: Vol. 5 Episode 4 (Click link to play) Rel: 12/19/09
Description:The Slightly Unpleasant Dream After Hanukkah” – When DJ digitalflood is left to celebrate Hanukkah all alone he quickly realizes he has two big problems. First, he’s not Jewish so he has no idea what Hanukkah even is much less how to celebrate. Second, he cannot be trusted with fire since the old barn fire of 1982 still haunts his reputation. So DJ digitalflood has to resort to the only way he knows how to celebrate a cherished sacred holiday he knows nothing about– by pretending it’s Halloween and spinning the best Goth, Industrial, EBM, and IDM music out there!

Normally Pirate Radio has an annual Halloween show, but because we missed out this year on that show we’ve decided to catch up late (as usual). Enjoy this mix of music that Tim Burton would approve of all too much. The mix is an homage to the DJs of QXTs Night Club of Newark NJ. QXTs is a very popular alternative dance club dedicated to the underground industrial goth scene. DJ digitalflood spent a lot of time down there between 2004 and 2006 listening to a bunch of very talented DJs that influenced his early mixing style. You can still hear hints of this style creep into every mix session he does, but this one particularly shows his love of all things electronically created, as well as, beat driven in nature. Enjoy underground German acts, two live performances of mixes that appear on the seminal tribute album “Digitalflood: Drowns” and an original digitalflood song that appears on “Come On (It’s Not Easy)” remixed to new heights. There’s tons of other musical gems mixed in there that will keep you grooving throughout it’s total one hour and forty two minute run time (that’s like two Pirate Radio shows in one!). All this and more in one smooth “Cut Like Crack” continuous mix session. Gut Yontiff!

DF Pirate Radio – “Oi Vai, This Ain’t Kosher!”

Title: Vol. 5 Episode 2 (Click Link to Play) Rel: 11/28/09
Description:Oi Vai, This Ain’t Kosher!” – After ten months on hiatus, digitalflood Pirate Radio returns to finish off the season (Volume 5) bringing their irrelevant, witty, and always original web cast back to the Internet. This episode kicks off that return with DJ digitalflood and special guest co-host Reverend Damian Baker. M’Weezy is off and busy with pursuing her Registered Nursing AS degree and with her not around the question quickly becomes– just how out of control will DJ digitalflood get without M’Weezy being around to reign him in? You’ll have to listen in to find out. You’ll also hear about the good Reverend’s recent change of religion, Halloween trick or treat tomfoolery, and get to listen to his latest off the wall playlist. It’s a heavily 70s funk and soul influenced mix, but there’s bits of nu metal and rap in there as well. The conversation does take some strange detours and you’ll end up knowing more about the good Reverend than you may have ever wanted to know to begin with, but one things for sure– you’re sure to laugh the hardest you have in a long time. Keep your ears tuned for the MLK Jr. bobble head reference. Classic!

Pirate Radio Vol. 5 Episode 2 – “Preview”

Reverend Damian Baker

Reverend Damian Baker

As you may remember (or not since it’s been so long), we already recorded our first digitalflood Pirate Radio for the year (Vol. 5 Episode 1) back in January of 2009. Because of that show, this new and forthcoming Pirate Radio show will be labeled “Vol. 5 Episode 2”. Hopefully this explanation will avoid confusion when you see it up on df.com in some nine days and counting down. I didn’t want you to think I was pulling some cheesy Star Wars hokey release a later episode before the earlier episode garbage.

I’m happy to announce Vol. 5 Episode 2 will be guest hosted by none other than Reverend Damian Baker. The good Reverend’s profile can be found on DF Staff Page #2. Unfortunately due to scheduling conflicts M’Weezy will not be available, but all that means is there will be no one to reel me in. As such, this should be an episode to remember. Throw in the fact that the good Reverend always shows up with a few musical surprises and you can for sure understand this is an episode you’ll need to have in your df Pirate Radio MP3 collection. As I always say, “Let’s get into it!”

Remember, it’s not about talent when it comes to Pirate Radio… it’s about putting up with my unending ramblings and long winded stories that lead to nowhere. It’s all in the name of comedy though so suck it up and take it like a man (unless of course you’re not a man… then take it like not man)!

Quick Note: Pirate Radio Link Moved

Just a quick note… I moved the digitalflood Pirate Radio link into the top menu under “Music” (if you hover over the category it will show up in the drop down menu as well as the page itself). If you recall, in df v10 it used to be there; but when we went to v11 I had some complications getting the link to work. I had a bit of a break through this afternoon and realized a easy way to pull it off. So now things are back to where they should be. I also tidied up and compacted the right hand menu items to keep things easy to navigate.
