Happy Halloween

Hope you have a happy and fun filled Halloween! The kids, wife, and I plan on going out this evening for trick or treating with my friends and family. We usually all go in a big group and have a great time walking around. It’s an annual tradition I really look forward to each year. I love watching the kids run around to get candy, seeing the great decorations many people around here put up, and checking out all the neat costume ideas people come up with.

Hope your Halloween is filled with plenty of treats and maybe some good tricks too. As always, thanks for tuning in and keeping up with df.com!

Digitalflood – The Lifetime Movie Network Version

Lifetime Movie NetworkIt’s no secret that my wife loves the Lifetime Movie Network, just like every other red blooded American woman in this fine country we call the United States of America. I’m not sure what it is about women and Lifetime. I know it’s the “network for women”, but there’s something more to it. As a man I’m hard pressed to even remotely grasp the concept of watching movies made during the mid to late 80s that were not popular, but starred medium tier B grade actors/actresses. I’m even more hard pressed to understand how movies about women being raped, murdered, beaten, forced into the sex slave trade, or generally harassed by every male character within a 100′ of the main female lead is compelling TV; but as I type this a Lifetime Movie blares away in the background with my wife in its firm memorizing grip.

This particular gem is about a woman who has such severe menstrual cycles she risks monthly hemorrhaging. To escalate issues further she also happens to be a detective trying to solve the cold case murder of a young girl by some evil country club reject who was cheating on her with his older lover. There’s also some Japanese rapist OBGYN hanging around during this whole thing and I’m not quite sure why; but there he is being creepy. I can’t make this stuff up– this is the plot. I’m not sure of the title, but if I had to take a wild guess I call it “Bleeding Heart” or maybe “The Women In The Ditch”. I’m not sure that it even matters.

90% of Lifetime Movies are about how horrible men are. 98% of male characters on Lifetime are rapists, murders, or the often overlooked rapist-murder. There’s an occasional nice guy, but he either ends up dead or turns out to be gay. There’s always some evil woman involved. She’s usually some angry cougar on the prowl looking to use her late 50s sex appeal to her advantage. Somehow she aligns with the murder-rapist male, but never ends up dead until the very end. The odds are often overwhelming for the female lead. They could be obstacles of emotion, spirit, and the occasional ankle cramp from too many Pilate cycle sessions.

The law enforcement agents tend to be clueless if not indifferent. I can honestly say I’ve never seen an African American male on Lifetime that I can recall. I’ll be on the look out, but it appears black men don’t exist in Lifetime Movies. Perhaps they were the only ones smart enough to move away from an area where there is such a dense population of murder-rapists and their cougar cold-hearted accomplices.

I’m pretty sure if digitalflood.com was turned into a Lifetime Movie we’d be some evil underground society using the web to extort underage teenage girls in a heroin for popcorn prostitution ring covered by an illegal web cast program. None of that can be further from the truth, but the story writes itself better than an over weight man typing on his computer late at night while his wife watches the TV. Let’s face it– nobody would sit through that. The murder-rapist though; clear winner.

Some Unexpected Delays

Life has a funny way of throwing you some odd ball curves and case in point has been this past week. We’ve seen some major development on df.com over the last few weeks including a new CAPTCHA comment system (that is acting a bit funny on where it sits… working on that lay out issue still) and some look/feel improvements.

Development was held up about a week ago due to personal problems. I was returning home from a family trip to wife’s aunt and uncle’s house for a BBQ on 9/13/09. We went down with my in-laws and youngest daughter. As I was returning my daughter’s car seat to my wife’s car I aggravated a long standing injury in the form of dislocating my shoulder completely. The bone was some 1″ out of the socket and it was extremely painful to say the least. So bad in fact, I had to go to the ER to have a doctor set it.

As a result, I’ve spent the last week completely laid up and unable to even type a blog entry to let you know what was going on. I’m feeling a bit better and tomorrow I’ll be getting an MRI. My orthopedist thinks it should be repairable in surgery and barring any major setbacks I should be back to normal in six months or so. I have since this past Wednesday return to work for full days and that is a good sign.

I’m still sore and until post surgery updates may be intermittent based on the health of my shoulder. You don’t really realize how much you use an arm until you can’t. What delays this will have on my other plans is not know yet, but I’m still trying to figure out a way to continue with Pirate Radio though a delay may be unfortunately inevitable. Like many things in life– we just must wait and see what tomorrow may bring.

Classic DF – 8/2/02

August 02, 2002: [•] Two sheriff’s deputies located two kidnapped teenage girls and shot their kidnapper minutes before he planned to execute the girls. [•] Ziad Jarrah, one of the 9/11 terrorists, was being watched by the CIA at one point. [•] Israel has begun retaliation for the bombing of a school cafeteria two days ago. [•] Mystery blobs are appearing on sidewalks in Camden, NJ. [•] Iraq is considering allowing arms inspections to resume. [•] 20 people are dead after fighting in Kashmir. [•] A kidnapped German has been released in Sudan. [•] A man arrested in Zambia has admitted to practicing black magic and even more disturbing was authorities found him in possession of a human heart wrapped in a cloth. [•] Fighting has broken out in Afghanistan between Tajiks and Pashtuns. [•] An ex-cop was killed in a shoot-out with his former coworkers after they tried to arrest him on suspicion of killing his wife. [•] A girl has turned up missing in San Francisco. [•] For once and all I’d to put the rumors to rest that my wife and I are getting divorced. Yes, we’ve had our arguments; but nothing out of the ordinary for any married couple to disagree over. Melissa and I have honestly never been happier and we are more committed to each other than ever before. Despite arguments, personal differences, and opinions that differ we are still together. This will be for the foreseeable future. While I appreciate the concern of friends I’m a little confused about motives nevertheless. My marriage is not based on staying together for my daughter alone. It is based on Melissa and my mutual need to love each other. We respect each other and we have made great strides to over come every personal issue we have encountered. Certainly, we are like no married couple and unlike 50% of couples today we have managed to have our marriage last 3 years. If we didn’t want to be with each other believe me we would have already made that choice. Divorce is a choice made by couples who cannot fix their indifferences. It is not caused by simply fighting and in some instances it is caused by lack there in of. Without communication and interaction a marriage is doomed to fail. What some see as a troubled marriage is actually a healthy one in many aspects. People may not be able to handle our frank handling of matters and our openness to discuss issues in heated conversation. However, this does not designate my marriage as a failure. Our relationship has always been built on commitment and with such it will continue to be. Last night when I embraced my wife and for the billionth time told her that I loved her it meant just as much, if not more than, as the first day I said those words. I love you wife (and daughter too) and I know you feel the same about me. 🙂
