Classic DF – 6/13/03

June 13, 2003: [•] Ah, long time no banter. Let’s catch up: Last week I was on vacation and it was awesome. I spent the whole week with Gette just chilling out having a great time together around the house. We wandered around, bonded, and at some point ended up at Chuck E Cheese’s dancing on-stage with a six foot tall mechanical rat. We rule! Aside from causing a scene at the local kid’s hang out I’ve also been enjoying my new car. It’s nice. Sure it’s no sexus in the Lexus, but I’ll leave big pimping to Jay Z as he far surpasses my capabilities at it. [•] After such an incredible vacation that totally zenned my rear you’d think going back to work would stink. AH HAH! You’d be wrong! I started on my new role as “Network Specialist”. The words “kick ass” come to mind. Though sometimes I think of the movie Office Space while I’m there and I don’t mean that in a bad way. It’s just that everyone over in this department takes quotes out of it and randomly drops it into conversations. I think they’re just trying to see if I’m paying attention. I plan on name dropping right back– My maroon Swingline stapler should be here any day now 😉 [•] So now it’s back to the weekend again and I figured I’d update while Gette naps. I REALLY want to go to the zoo tomorrow with her if it’s nice out, but we’ll see. On a sad note, my sister lost her cat Murray. He ran away on Thursday. If you see an orange and white domestic short hair cat wandering around Warwick please let me know. I couldn’t find a picture of him around the house, but the cat in the link looks a lot like him only Murray is chubbier. Expect an update in a week or two… or three… yeah exactly WHATEVER!

Classic DF – 4/8/03

April 08, 2003: [•] US forces continue to pound the living daylights out of the now defunct Iraqi military. [•] Work has begun by US officials on getting an Iraqi government together that represents its citizens. [•] Meanwhile Iraqi “Information Minister” Mohammed Saeed al-Sahaf continues to say that his forces are winning despite no one believing a word he says at this point. [•] Yahoo! has tweaked its search engine yet again in an attempt to become the choice search engine. [•] Infants breast fed require a Vitamin D supplement to prevent health issues. [•] A rose is a rose by any other name except when it shares the name of a terrorist. Then it is a suspect held at gun point and subjected to scrutiny. [•] A new antibiotic that fights pnuemonia and bronchitis is now showing strength in fighting anthrax. [•] IBM has literally run out of stock shares. So now what? [•] The product key for Windows Server 2003 has leaked onto the Internet. [•] Sun previews its new CPU code-named Jalapeno. Spicy! [•] Intel and Via have settled all outstanding lawsuits against each other. The result is Via can continue making chipsets and Intel gets a cut of the profits from them. [•] There is a security hole in the *NIX application called Samba. [•] The whole total home network thing doesn’t appeal to me. I mean I’ve had my web site hacked before and that was bad enough. I can only imagine having to re-mirror my entire house because someone hacked into my refrigerator through a buffer exploit, set my ice maker on high, and covered my floor in ice cubes. Then dropped the temperature in my apartment to 20° and froze my cats to the kitchen floor. Doh! [•] The Warwick School District budget is up 8% from last year and it looks like even an austerity budget won’t save residents an impending tax hike. [•] It’s time for some new music and here’s what came out today that’s worth buying: Autechre, Atari Teenage Riot, Johnny Cash, Fear Factory, Godsmack, Jay Z, and the X-ecutioners. [•] SARS is spread by cockroaches. [•] McDonald’s is going to start selling healthy food. Believe it or not that isn’t a joke. [•] A US air strike targeted Saddam Hussein may have killed the dictator though no one knows for sure right now. [•] US Forces found what appears to be the chemicals used to make Sarin gas. Further testing is being done, but if it comes back positive from a lab Iraq is in deep poop. [•] The Deftones have launched a club tour. [•] Staind is going to do three free shows to celebrate the release of their new album 14 Shades of Gray. Also, Meatloaf is launching his final world tour. [•] DJ Shadow says he’s only produced three tracks for Zach De La Rocha’s new album and the rest were produced by Trent Reznor. Very cool. [•] BMW has premiered its new 5-Series sedan at its latest German world headquarters press conference. I’m not quite sure if I like it or not. I’ll give this– it’s different. [•] Supposedly it’s Spring here in Southern New York State. All I have to say to that is; HAH!

[•] 2002 will see the return of the Dodge to the police market with the Intrepid police car package. [•] Volkswagen unveils its new D1 and it has a 411 hp W12 engine. What more could you ask for? [•] If you look close at the 2002 Holden Monaro you can see the Australian version of the Chevrolet Camaro. Just “sigh” and think of all that could have been. [•] Sony continues its trend of integrating all of its products together with the TiVo. [•] Microsoft says that many of the exploits that turn up are due to vendors giving out early source code (Sure, blame someone else LOL). [•] I love you wife and daughter! [•] Immy reports that Reboot, a popular computer animated cartoon, will be running season four in the US. That rules. [•] I’ve been busy as heck at work. I had to compose a training transcript and work up a presentation. I completed a broadband presentation the other day. I keep getting stuck late at work solving implausible problems. I’ve had two meetings this week and next week I am going to an expo on local commerce. So faced with not enough time during prime time I got up a 5AM with Li’l Pooh this morning and had playtime. If one thing irks me about this world it’s that I don’t really see my daughter a lot during the week. I guess it’s time to wake up earlier to get some quality time– I hate getting up before the sun, but for her it’s worth it 🙂
