DJ Birthday Battle – Live Show

This past weekend on Saturday, July 30, 2011 I performed a surprise live set at my good friend DJ ADD.’s birthday party. DJ ADD had been promoting the party through his private Facebook account and was hosting a “DJ Birthday Battle” open to all comers. He was quite surprised when I showed up with DJ SlipK and a vintage Dell Pentium 4 ready to rock. I’d recently purchased a Numark DJ2Go and had worked that over the proceeding week into an upgraded Atomix VirtualDJ 7.0.4 setup. Augmenting my existing M-Audio X-Session, Boss DR-202 Groove Station, and my Akai MPD16 touch pad; the DJ2Go rounded out my scratching capabilities. I performed two 45 minute sets, as well as, participated in the four way one hour long mix off. A good time was had by all (DJs and party guests). Everybody was moving and the feedback was that everybody enjoyed the wide variety of sets offered. I was honored to join DJ ADD (who spun two great euro dub mix sets), DJ Space Catastrophe (who did two crazy four turntable club sets), and Mervernator (who came with his throwback Technics turntables and CD players– total old school in effect grinding out some insane drum and bass) for the event. They are all absolute gentlemen, incredible professionals, and brilliant DJs. It was truly a great experience. I understand that DJ Space Catastrophe did record much of the event and I’m hoping that DJ ADD will be able to compile it into a streaming set I can put up here on DF.com. I played my first set with old school throw back club grade  hip hop and my second set was underground goth club industrial. It was great to get back to mixing and I’m looking forward to getting active with music production again. You will see more from the site and yes– DF.com is in effect after an all too long hiatus once again. Let the chaos begin anew!

St. Baldwick’s Day: Joined “The Metal Brethen”

Donate to St. Baldwicks and help kids with cancer!

Donate to the St. Baldwick's Foundation and help kids with cancer!

Following up on my previous post about me participating in St. Baldwick’s Day– DJ SlipK, Skow From The East, and myself have joined the St. Baldwick’s team called “The Metal Brethen“. The team is being lead by Ken Pierce (of PiercingMetal.com fame) and I’m mighty proud to be part of the team. Our goal is $3,000 total and Ken has already raised $250 as of this writing.

Once again, St. Baldwick’s Foundation is a non-profit charity organization specifically focused on supporting research and support for children with cancer. They are the number one non-profit supporter in this field and have over the last few years become one of the largest organized cancer research fund raising events in the US. Every dollar counts so please donate whatever you can.

You can make your donation through my donation web portal, which can be found at:

http://www.stbaldricks.org/participants/djdigitalflood

On 7/23/10, our team will be having their heads shaved in NYC to show solidarity with all cancer stricken people everywhere and to raise money for the charity. If you would like to join us you are welcome to do so. We’re already talking about getting some drinks down in Manhattan after the shavings are done and making this into a full evening celebration. So donate, show up to cheer us on, and enjoy a round of frosty adult beverages– all for a cause that is going to help some kids who really need it at a time where they are at their weakest and sickest. This is an absolute win-win for us all (well– expect for me and the Metal Brethen who will have to wear some sunscreen on their heads for few weeks– but we’ll deal because the cause is well worth it).

To add to things, I was talking with MC Mary (my sister) last night and it turns out that 7/23/10 will be the thirteenth anniversary of my father’s (Jeremiah Francis Welch Jr.) death. He passed away from complications caused by throat and mouth cancer in 1997. He was 52 years old and I was all of 20 years old at the time. So this makes this event all the more important to both me and my family as I will be shaving my head in his honor. I think it’s a great way to honor his memory and recognize how cancer impacts all of lives whether we are survivors, family members of those who have been ill, or those killed by it.

I hope you donate to this great cause and thank you in advance once again for your support.

St. Baldwick’s Day – Going bald for a good cause!

St. Baldricks FoundationIt’s been a while since I posted, but I’m happy to announce we’re back in action at digitalflood.com and raising funds for a another good cause. This time around digitalflood.com will be raising money for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation. I will be getting my head shaved on 7/23/10 in NYC and you can support my efforts by donating any amount of money you can through the following web payment portal:

http://www.stbaldricks.org/participants/djdigitalflood

DJ SlipK and Skow are also going to be getting their heads shaved as well and it would certainly be nice if you could donate a few bucks to them as well. Again– any amount is appreciated. Their profiles are in our team profile, which can be found here.

You can find out more about St. Baldrick’s Foundation on their site, but basically they are a non-profit organization that raises funds for cancer research specifically focused on childhood cancers. They are a great organization, which is dedicated to helping out kids who are extremely sick and need all the support they can to recover.

They have a complete organization run down at: http://www.stbaldricks.org/about-us/

As you may know, my father died of cancer (throat/mouth) and so did his mother (my grandmother). Cancer is thus a subject very close to home in my family as it is in many of those of my friends.

I hope you’ll support my head shaving and give what you can. The kids will appreciate it and you can even take a tax deduction. So it even helps you out financially as well… that’s what we call win-win and you can’t beat that.

Roid Rage

Digitalflood.com got a bit of a steroid boost today. This afternoon I took down server between 2:20 and 2:25 pm EST. I added additional RAM to help offset some minor bursts in traffic we see time to time. So far, so good. From a hardware standpoint we’re definitely where we need to be to keep the site running stable. We’ll now be focusing on getting the software configured properly and getting all the final graphics loaded.

DF.com v12 Beta 1

I’m happy to announce we’ve moved out of alpha class release into beta class release for version 12 of digitalflood.com. We are back in black again and looking sharp in our new tuxedo of a web site. The new server is doing very well with the normal site load. In about a week or so we’ll finalize the graphics on the site then move into full release. We thank you, as always, with sticking with us while we sort things out and make the site better.
